Other guarantees on the safety of the perfume derive from the code and from the IFRA (International Fragrance Association) standards, to which adhering perfumers must comply: for example, in the IFRA code the maximum admissible quantity in a cosmetic for a certain component is established). Another fundamental document for the safety of the perfume is the FSE (Fragrance Safety Evaluation), introduced in 1997 with the VI modification to the directive 76/768. The ESF is the main tool available to the safety assessor in order to assess the toxicological profile of the fragrance itself, therefore it constitutes an essential part of the PIF.
